Gwynedd Council are running an Active Travel Consultation suggesting path improvements and additions of new routes.

Update - April 2022

Walkway closed overnight - 28th April

From Network Rail:

There will be an urgent closure of the walkway across Barmouth Viaduct taking place overnight from 21:00 on Thursday 28th April with the walkway reopening at 07:00 on Friday 29th April.
This work is to enable a main beam beneath the walkway on Span 37 of the timber section to be replaced which had not been replaced as part of the main works.
Bilingual signs have been put up on the walkway informing people of the overnight closure. There will also be notifications on social media.

Repairs Complete

The flood damage near Welshpool has been repaired and trains are now runing all the way through to Shrewsbury.


Update - February 2022

Walkway Re-opened

The walkway across Barmouth Bridge has now re-opened for walkers and cyclists.
Trains continue to operate normally across the bridge, however, because of flood damage near Welshpool, a replacement bus service is operating between Newtown and Shrewsbury, until further notice.
